Verification
To identify goods and services, a verification mark is often added in the initial stages of the supply chain, such as a watermark in banknotes. At least 500 technical verification marks are available. Therefore innovation and opportunity lie not in adding more of such marks but in checking them: verification. Optimal verification means that the person, organisation or machine doing the checking must:
- Want to check
- Know that a check can/must be performed
- Know what to check and how
- Know what can be done with the results of the check
Verification requires good communication between the publisher and checker, which is difficult to achieve, for various reasons, so this presents an opportunity
